WHAT IS THIS CAMP ALL ABOUT?
Our goal at the Collingwood Collective Mountain Bike summer camp is to have fun on our bikes while improving our mountain bike skills.
Each week will have progressive lessons that will address the fundamentals of trail riding. Throughout the week we will focus on various skills needed for mountain biking. Coaches will use the skills parks, single track trail features and on bike games to teach and practice these skills.
A typical day at camp can be:
Morning flat land skills lesson.
Snack.
Trail ride.
Pool time or river dip.
Lunch.
Afternoon flat land skills lesson.
Trail ride.
Snack.
On bike game or trail ride.
(Rainy days activities can include; basic bike mechanics, arts & crafts, hiking, trail building.)
EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
This is NOT a beginners mountain bike camp. All campers are required to have experience riding single track terrain and be able to;
properly use all the gears on their bike.
ride up most hills.
be able to descend trails without their feet falling off the pedals.
be content on their bikes for a total of approximately 4-5 hours a day.
be motivated to have 3-5 bike sessions per day.
We would considering the minimum requirements to be a late-beginner/intermediate skilled mountain biker. If you are unsure about your child's ability level, please contact us; collingwoodcollective@gmail.com
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
A safe and well functioning mountain bike is mandatory;
department store bikes not allowed.
no kickstands on the bikes.
must have at least 2” knobby tires.
must have at least 7 gears.
brakes must be able to stop the bike with the weight of the rider on it.
all gears on the bike must function properly, without the chain falling off in either direction.
a helmet meeting minimum bike safety requirements.
all campers must be able to fasten a water bottle to their bike or have a small backpack for hydration.
cycling gloves are recommended.
For the safety of the camper, and the ability of the coaches to keep the groups together in a safe fashion, any bike not meeting these requirements will not be allowed on the trails, as we will request that the camper gets picked up from camp. If you are unsure of the safety or functioning of your bike, please visit a local bike shop at least 3 weeks prior to the start of your camp date to ensure you have the bike in working order for Monday of your registered week.
